Lake Tahoe water in your beer? You read that right. The west coast and California have long been known for their luscious craft brews. But lake water in your beer? It’s becoming the standard around Lake Tahoe. Truckee has seen quite an influx of craft breweries popping up, so we thought we’d share our favorites.

While it’s difficult for us to choose the best craft brew in North Lake, we do have a few favorites that you should not miss.

1. Alibi Ale Works- Brewed with pure Lake Tahoe Water, Alibi is one of our favorites. Beyond their impressive taproom in Downtown Truckee, Alibi offers a wide range of frequently rotating beers that are sure to impress every taste bud in your group. Alibi’s line up covers everything from sours, experimental one-offs, super hoppy and fresh brews, to barrel-aged and European style brews. In addition to their brews, they also offer a great selection of snacks (their nachos are a must-try!)

2. Truckee Brewing Company- Not only are they the newest craft brewers in town, Truckee Brewing Company’s entire mission and focus is to make the best beer. Great attention goes into their brewing process, that also includes Lake Tahoe water that has been purified. The location is almost secretive, but the atmosphere is cheery and bright, the staff is friendly and amiable, and their snacks are made locally at The Sierra Bakehouse. Try their Brut IPA!

3. FiftyFifty Brewing CompanyLocated in Truckee, FiftyFifty Brewing has set the standard for Tahoe craft brews for over a decade. Their flagship pub and brewery offer all their beers as well as a full menu. FiftyFifty was named “Brewery Group of the Year” in 2018 by the Great American Beer Festival. This is a stop you don’t want to miss and it’s also a great restaurant for families!

4. Tahoe Mountain Brewing CompanyServing up small batch brews and barrel aged ales, Tahoe Mountain Brewing Company is located a few minutes from downtown Truckee.  They blend modern science, creativity, spontaneity and the best ingredients possible for a wide range of experimental and traditional style brews. Their brewery and taproom is open to the public Thursday-Sunday.

Mountain towns always share one thing in common: great beer! If you’ve got a taste for craft brews, we’re sure these recommendations won’t disappoint.
