Tahoe Vacation Planning

If you're a dog lover, you are probably as excited as we are about National Dog Day, coming up in just one month, on August 26, 2018. And what faithful best friend doesn't deserve a vacation of their very own? To kick off the planning, we thought it was the perfect time to share some of our favorite dog friendly beaches, trails, restaurants, and more all around North Lake Tahoe. Follow our plan below and you're guaranteed happy wags and smiles.

8:00 am - Wake up in a pet friendly vacation rental and enjoy a morning stretch in a fully fenced yard

Finding a Tahoe vacation rental that welcomes your pet might seem like a no brainer by now, but what about selecting one with a fully fenced yard, allowing your pup to freely enjoy the fresh mountain air off leash, without having to worry about him running off, or running into Tahoe wildlife. And better yet, if your dog is ready to go out before you are, you can stay in your pajamas as long as you want, keeping an eye on him from inside while enjoying your morning coffee.

Speak with a Tahoe Getaways reservations agent to find out which homes offer this awesome amenity. To get you started, here are a few of our dog-friendly Tahoe rentals that include fenced-in yards: Mountain EscapeOlive BranchHigh Sierra HideawayClub 151, and West Shore Cozy Cabin.

10:00 am - Hike the Tahoe trails with your favorite human

North Lake Tahoe and Truckee are home to numerous hiking trails. Leash rules vary, but you'll likely run into a number of dogs on most trails. For an easy, paved walk along the Truckee River, with dirt paths down to the river bank, check out the Legacy Trail in Truckee. Or, for a more challenging, but still moderate hike to several gorgeous alpine lakes, try Five Lakes Trail near Alpine Meadows.

12:30 pm - Lunch on the deck at Waterman's Landing

After your hike, fuel up with a sandwich or wrap from Waterman's Landing Beach Cafe. Enjoy the view from the patio dining area where dogs are welcome.

2:00 pm - Cool off at Patton Beach

Next door to Waterman's Landing is the smooth pebble shore of Patton Beach. This beach is dog friendly and you'll see pups frolicking on the shore, playing fetch in the lake, even paddleboarding! You can rent kayaks and SUPs nextdoor at Waterman's Landing and your dog is welcome to hop on.

5:00 pm - Happy Hour at Blue Agave

By this time your dog (and her human) will be ready to relax and enjoy some hard earned refreshment. Head over to Tahoe City and enjoy a margarita at Blue Agave. Sit on the patio and your furry friend will be able to join you while you watch tourists stroll by along the Tahoe City boardwalk.

7:00 pm - All tired out, dreaming of your next trip to the Big Blue...

Back at home, curled up in your pet-friendly vacation rental, your sweet pup couldn't be happier. And after being such a good dog parent, take some time for yourself! Fire up the grill and cook a delicious summer meal before enjoying a soak in your home's private hot tub
