ABOUT THE AREA

Conveniently located two miles south of Tahoe City, you’ll find the quintessential Tahoe neighborhood of Sunnyside. This heavily wooded section on Lake Tahoe’s west shore features Old Tahoe style homes and classic cabins. Homes in this neighborhood are all centrally located on between Homewood and Tahoe City.

Just down the road you’ll find Sunnyside Resort and Marina and William Kent Shoreline. William Kent beach is situated in a wooded setting and offers picnic tables and grills with views across Lake Tahoe of the eastern shoreline. Next door, Sunnyside Resort is a favorite year round lakeside dining option.

During the ski season, you are less than fifteen minutes from Homewood Mountain Resort. Or travel just twenty minutes to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, two of the premier Tahoe ski areas. A single lift ticket provides access to both resorts, and the Squaw/Alpine Express offers between mountain transportation every 20-30 minutes.

Comfortable, cozy and well appointed. With spacious living areas. Beautiful, serene back deck with a running stream adding to the ambiance. The neighborhood was quiet but at the same time close to everything. Hiking trails at the end of the street were amazing! This cabin has everything you need for a week stay! We hope to be back!!

Great place. Bed in master way too small. Like, way to small. Buy at least a queen size, not suitable for a couple, very uncomfortable, cmon. Didnt realize there was no air conditioning, very uncomfortable during the peak times of heat during day, coudnt even use oven. Great location, very clean, very nice cabin.

Manager Response:

Thank you for your review of this home. The bed in the master is a Queen, as advertised, but I'm sorry if it wasn't to your liking! Like the vast majority of homes in the Tahoe area, it is correct that this property is not equipped with AC. We do supply fans for each bedroom and are available 7 days a week to provide helpful tips on keeping each home cool and comfortable!

The home is adorable! The property is gorgeous! Very centrally located. We have two children - ages 5 and 8 - and there was more than enough room for all of us.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again and just loved being there. One suggestion - the coffee pot does not automatically turn off. I might suggest an upgrade b/c if you don't remember to turn it off, it stays on ... all day

Arrived at the house and noticed the trash cans were completely full due to all the snow and the trash company passing by unable to open the trash container. Called Tahoe Getaways and they had one of their employee stop by within 30 minutes and removed all the trash. Extremely happy with the customer service from them!

Overall we were very satisfied with the property and would book again.

Pros:
Charming, attention to details in interior design.
Cosy bedroom with plenty of sheets and blankets.
Both dinning table and kitchen nook enabled multiple use of tables.
Closest restaurant and deli 3 minutes drive away.
Well supplied kitchen for cooking.

Cons:
I'd recommend a spring cleaning of some kitchen utensils, pots and pans as some were in unacceptable condition.
I wish the piano was tuned; although this probably doesn't matter to most visitors. I did bring my piano music with me in anticipation that it was tuned.

What a special and perfectly snowy Christmas weekend for our family! Ward Creek cabin was everything we hoped for and more. Incredibly atmospheric, sturdy and well-built with special touches in evidence everywhere, including the most delightfully homey and well-stocked kitchen, which was perfect for baking and holiday dinner preparations. We loved everything from the comfy beds to the crackling fireplace, pretty views from every window and an enchanting winter wonderland awaiting us off the back deck. Icy, tumbling Ward Creek and the creekside trail made for some exhilarating walks admiring the National Forest cloaked in snow. Property management was excellent and the serene west shore location not far from Tahoe City was perfect for us. We'll always treasure our happy memories of our stay at Ward Creek and would love to return!

This cute & cozy cabin is totally Tahoe. If you like the feel of nature, this is it. With all the Sugar Pine trees, creek and animal life, you never want to leave the large deck. Just sit and enjoy the nature around you. The cabin was darling and well equipped with everything you would need. You definitely feel at home. It's close to shopping and restaurants, plus local bike and walking paths. This area has always been our favorite and we would definitely come back to this charming cabin again. The only thing is the BBQ could stand a little work. We love to cook outdoors and had a hard time starting the BBQ. Had a lot of wonderful meals on the large and quite deck which we totally enjoyed. This charmer is a five star.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at various cabins around the Sunnyside area for many years. Of all that we have enjoyed this particular cabin was the most well prepared and stocked for guests. The location is great for walking to the lake or the park. The sound of the water from Ward Creek was very nice. We would not hesitate to stay again or to recommend this property to friends ! One downside... was that we were unaware that there was construction going on across the street. At times there was 6 to 7 construction vehicles parked in front of the house and even on the property. With that said the high quality windows in the cabin kept the noise out !

We found the cabin just as we had expected from the description, a cozy house in a nice location with plenty of room for us five people.

The bedrooms and beds were comfortable, the second and third bathrooms were smallish but perfectly fine, all three were spotless, and the kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, flatware, and cookware, and the gas stove and dishwasher worked fine. Some of the pots and pans were a little on the old side with partially worn-off non-stick coating, but we didn't have a problem preparing meals.

There was enough upholstered furniture to sit around the nice wood-burning fireplace or watch (cable) TV. The cabin also features wireless Internet access with sufficient bandwidth to watch medium-resolution streaming movies from Netflix or Amazon with only minor hiccups here and there, and the flat-panel 1080p TV has spare HDMI inputs (but bring your own HDMI cable).

We would definitely recommend this property to friends or relatives.

We were so happy upon arrival that we found a perfect little cottage like cabin for our weekend stay. Rustic yet updated, true cabin in the woods. My girls (8yr) loved the little walk to the creek and spent so much time down there exploring.

Beautiful creek setting!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ward Creek Retreat. The house had great amenities and lovely deck with huge backyard. The property is in a great location, close to Sunnyside Resort, Tahoe City and great beaches/water activities. We would definitely stay here again!!

Classic Tahoe Cabin - Might Not Be For Everyone

From the pictures, and based on the location, I knew this was the right choice for our Tahoe vacation. Having spent much of my life staying in South Lake Tahoe at a Forest Service Cabin, this property captured much of what I'm looking for in a Tahoe vacation. It's charming, old fashioned, in the forest next to a creek. Its furnishings are well worn and comfortable, and the deck invites you to sit for hours, enjoying the view and smells of the pine trees. A bonus was that it was pet friendly - not always easy to come by in a vacation rental.

My caution to other renters is this: while functional, the cabin's amenities are quite dated - old appliances, dishes, fixtures - definitely not what is represented in the Tahoe Getaways description. The kitchen appliances are all circa 1980's and the dishes/pots & pans look like they were procured from the local thrift shop. If you like to cook, this is not the place for you. Irons, hair dryers, and bathrooms were similarly dated, and the beds/bedding were a little past their prime.

Last, the Tahoe Getaways team mistakenly told me that this property was part of the Tahoe Park HOA - a fact that was important to me in selecting a vacation property. While the person who checked me in was apologetic about the mistake, no consideration was offered or made for their error, which was disappointing.

All that being said, we had a nice stay. I hope this feedback provides value to someone considering this property, and helps make the next renter make a choice that's well informed.

Wonderful cabin! Thank you.

Only thing that could have made it better would have been if firewood was provided.
