Lake Forest Beach is a free day-use park in the Lake Forest Glen neighborhood, just a few miles from Tahoe City. This peaceful, less-crowded beach features a mix of sand and pebbles, along with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe, Mount Tallac, and the surrounding mountains.
The calm shoreline is a great place to launch a paddleboard, kayak, or windsurfing equipment. Visitors can also enjoy swimming, birdwatching, picnicking, and horseshoes, with picnic tables and grills available for public use.
During summer, the shoreline comes alive with vibrant purple lupine wildflowers, typically blooming from mid-July through mid-August. In some dry years, blooms may begin as early as late May or June, making Lake Forest Beach a beautiful spot for photography and sightseeing.
Dog Friendly
Lake Forest Beach has a designated dog-friendly area. When facing Lake Tahoe, stay to the right (west) side of the beach. The left side is marked “No Dogs Allowed.” Look for the small bridge and nearby dog-waste bag dispenser to confirm you’re in the designated area. Dogs should be kept under control, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
The water near the shore is relatively shallow but remains cold, so use caution when swimming with children or pets.
Please note: Parking is limited, especially during the busy summer months. Arrive early to increase your chances of finding a spot.
