Description

Sunnyside Cottage is the perfect "Little Tahoe Cabin". This quintessential Tahoe Rental will set the tone for your family's Tahoe vacation as soon as you enter.

It has been recently re-furbished with authentic wood walls & floors, open trussed ceilings, and rustic stone accents; not a piece of drywall in the whole house. Guest are sure to enjoy the cozy wood fireplace and hot tub; perfect to relax after a long day of Lake Tahoe outdoor activities. The kitchen is small, but certainly well equipped and adequate; with dining for 6-8 people. Once you leave this romantic little retreat you're sure to return.

ABOUT THE AREA

Conveniently located two miles south of Tahoe City, you’ll find the quintessential Tahoe neighborhood of Sunnyside. This heavily wooded section on Lake Tahoe’s west shore features Old Tahoe style homes and classic cabins. Homes in this neighborhood are all centrally located on between Homewood and Tahoe City.

Just down the road you’ll find Sunnyside Resort and Marina and William Kent Shoreline. William Kent beach is situated in a wooded setting and offers picnic tables and grills with views across Lake Tahoe of the eastern shoreline. Next door, Sunnyside Resort is a favorite year round lakeside dining option.

During the ski season, you are less than fifteen minutes from Homewood Mountain Resort. Or travel just twenty minutes to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, two of the premier Tahoe ski areas. A single lift ticket provides access to both resorts, and the Squaw/Alpine Express offers between mountain transportation every 20-30 minutes.

POLICIES & DISCLOSURES

1. The refrigerator is smaller than average (apartment size, not a mini fridge).

2. The driveway could be considered steep; 4WD or chains are advised Nov-Apr

3. The upstairs loft-style king bedroom is not fully enclosed and has no door.

* All of our homes feature a full kitchen, washer and dryer, outdoor grill, and wireless internet (any exceptions will be noted above).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cabin. The location was perfect, quiet but close enough to a few places to eat an d great hiking trails. The cabin itself has great interior design. The main room was great for lounging around as the snow fell. The kitchen has a great layout and is well supplied with good cookware. The beds were comfortable. We would stay again!

I have always dreamed of having a small cottage/cabin in Tahoe. My father was the same but passed young and never fulfilled his dream.

The Sunnyside Cottage is the manifestation of that dream. Small, well organized, great landscaping, simple yet comfortable, close to the lake , Firesign cafe, hiking and biking areas.

Jenn from the property management company was very communicative and helpful.

A few suggestions. I am a reader, particularly when in Tahoe.. better lighting near the couch would be great. I hate to say this, but a larger
TV at the end of the Couch is necessary. The monitor style TV to small
for these aging eyes.

Really great...

We loved our stay at Sunnyside cottage. The location was great and the cottage was perfect for our family of 4. We had plenty of space and loved the decor. The owner must be an interior decorator because the attention to detail and cool custom pieces make it such a special spot. We hope to return again soon!

This was a great little place for myself, my husband and our dog. I was a little jumpy about the hot tub being cold when I checked in but the staff called me back several times and even sent someone out to make sure it was working. (They had just put clean water in it that day and it was warm by the next morning.) Everyone was very helpful. Tahoe Getaways is very professional. Cabin looks exactly like the photos. You won't be disappointed.

The Sunnyside cottage was great for our 2 families of 4 + dog. We had a wonderful stay. This place is very practical and the design well thought through. We had a small problem with the hot tub which was fixed right away. We would love to stay there again! Our only regret is that my daughter left there her dear stuffed animal she had since she was a baby and it was never found by the cleaning crew!

A fantastic, cozy cabin with all the amenities, and the property management folks were extremely courteous and quick to respond when we needed service on the hot tub (in the evening, no less). We'd gladly return to this cabin again! Vegans beware, however: there are LOTS of animal skins adorning the cabin (the main seat cushions are made of them). It was, however, the first and only time I've petted a bear.... For us it was a wonderful place!

Great Stay - Misleading Costs

The property itself was a great place to stay and convenient location to see the entire lake. Bedrooms were nice and hot tub was fantastic. Only downside were the additional/"hidden" fees above and beyond the stated nightly price. Cleaning fee is common but a bit excessive ($175) given minimal day stay and size of cottage. In particular the $126 VRBO service fee and $59 damage waiver were unexpected and IMO unnecessary. More transparency upfront on the listing is recommended that includes all costs. Don't forget the high taxes tacked on too.

Manager Response:

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am so glad you enjoyed the home - it is one of our favorites. Please note that all fees are itemized prior to allowing anyone to book, and if you book direct on Tahoe Getaways you will avoid any additional booking fees charged by third party sites!

We had a great visit. Nice cabin. It was disappointing that we had to go out to buy firewood. I spent a lot of money & believe that wood should be supplied. The heater was making a lot of noise. We checked it & wS shocked to see the air filter was really bad! Called you & you did replace it the same day. Otherwise all was good.

We really felt like we were locals living in this house for 5 days. Quick morning drive to the little market for coffee and groceries.. easy to get around and see the town from this spot. The house was great, so modern yet rustic and still had the feel of a lodge or cabin. I can't say a bad word about the house or city!

This little cabin is beautiful, perfectly located and very comfortable. The kitchen is great despite the small refrigerator and lack of microwave. It was a wonderful time!

Perfect, Rustic Tahoe "Cabin"

If you have never been to Tahoe before, this is what you're envisioning - an upscale, tastefully decorated yet rustic cottage/cabin. When you open the front door, you feel like you've stepped into a beautiful 1920's lodge that has been upgraded to today's standards (e.g., heated stone floor in the main bathroom, WiFi, upscale kitchen appliances, hot tub in the yard, etc.). This is an extremely cozy and comfortable place with tons of warm wood, a stone fireplace and an ideal location - right down the street from the Lake and within a short drive to the key ski resorts like Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley and North Star. The king bed in the master loft is very comfortable (and, having the half bath up there is a great idea). Also, having a washer/dryer in the unit is a real plus. A few constructive comments - this home does not have a microwave; the coffee maker creates only 2 cups per use; there is no garage - so, in the winter, be ready to deal with a cold/iced car in the driveway; and the electronics could stand to be upgraded (small TV, ancient DVD player and WiFi that needs to be reset about once each day). These are minor issues that the owner can fix without much additional investment in the home. We found them to be minor annoyances - especially compared to the overall look/feel of the home and location - by far much more important than these issues. Lastly, I wanted to comment on the vacation rental company that manages this property. They were outstanding! From the moment that we contacted them about our interest, right through to the check-out, they were very accommodating, professional and informative. I especially liked their reminder emails while we were staying at the home - like the one reminding us of garbage removal day. We will be renting from them again - no doubt! And, recommending them to friends and family. You can't go wrong with this home - especially if you want the quintessential, quaint Tahoe experience in the perfect location.

The house was great. Good location. The only thing I would caution is that one or some of the area's residents have dogs that roam. May not be ideal for young children or dogs that don't get along with other dogs.

Traditional Cabin Retreat

Pros:

We had a great time in this little cabin during a time in Sunnyside. This cabin has a traditional cabin feel with wood panel walls and the stone work that is done through out. It has a masculine decor with a "hunter's cabin" feel to it. Every square inch of the space is used very well to get the most out of the home. The hot tub and the grassy play area were a big hit with the kids. The home location is about a 7 min drive to downtown Tahoe City, which is nice for going to the store and shopping. The home is also very close to the bike trail and a park that has a play structure, and tennis courts.

Cons:
No microwave
Small single person coffee pot
Couches are very uncomfortable
Dogs in the neighborhood are kept off leash and not very friendly with other dogs.

Beautiful place but small

The place was beautiful and meticulously designed but was designed for small people. My boyfriend who is 6'2" kept hitting his head and sometimes really hurting himself. He would have to duck to not hit his head on the pans hanging from the ceiling and then hit his head on the stove hood. Same with the light over the table. There were only two of us. I couldn't imagine having 4 people there. There were not a lot of places to store clothing like closets or drawers. The coffee maker was very basic.

The casual but high quality of the finishes and fixtures in the home made our visit highly enjoyable. The scale of the interior spaces is intentionally small in comparison to other homes, but it added to the ambiance/comfort. We will plan to rent it again when we return in a couple of years.

It was nice. A little small for us but very beautiful setting. We were shocked that there was no microwave! We had left overs from cooking the first night and were hoping to reheat the leftovers! Also, we weren't fans of the sofas. Very hard.

Conveniently located to Tahoe City and West Shore within walk to lake and Sunnyside Resort. Very charming and rustic, yet totally updated in kitchen and bath. Just a great property and can sleep up to 8 but with single shower, that might be pushing things. We've already referred to friends and will hopefully get a return visit soon.

Awesome Location with Great Potential

The property was as described and the location was perfect. A very quiet neighborhood with a very comfortable and picturesque outdoor sitting area. The Cabin was not large but met all our needs.

There are a few items that could be attended to to improve this property and bring it up to a 4 star rating. The beds, upstairs loft and downstairs queen mattresses and pillows are well worn. The general cleanliness was lacking, needing a thorough cleaning. The stove top and oven were not properly cleaned(i.e. grease platters). The BBQ outside was filthy, overflowing drip tray and dirty grill. There were only two bath towels, one hand towel and two wash clothes. Not enough for a place that sleeps 8. Several dishes were not properly cleaned. There was no sponge in kitchen.

An easy walk to Fire Sign for breakfast and dinner at Sunnyside Lodge is highly recommended. Outdoor patio for morning coffee, afternoon drinks or a soak in the hot tub was awesome and these features is what may just bring us back!

Cutest lil' cottage!!! Has everything you need for a fun stay in the North Lake area. And, dogs are welcome too! Which is a huge plus for folks vacationing with the whole family.
Super close to town, skiing, hiking and the lake. Great property at a great price. Would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed our stay entirely! Cottage is superb in great proximity to Tahoe City. Interior is simple, but beautiful. Pros: Kitchen is well equipped, Bathrooms are modern, Hot tub is clean, Bedrooms are cozy and comfortable,Heating system is modern and reliable. Cons: No food storage in the kitchen; No microwave; Seating area in the living room could be updated-sofa is hard and it does have unpleasant aroma. Despite of the above listed cons, we really enjoyed our 3 night stay in this lovely cottage and would highly recommended to anyone seeking relaxing time in the woods!

Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the cabin. The neighborhood is clean, quiet and close enough to town for getting something to eat. The seating could be improved as we found the sofa to be uncomfortable for any length of time. A small microwave would have been convenient for heating left overs. We would definitely recommend this cabin to friends. Thank you.

We concur with others that this cabin is incredibly well appointed, very high quality, very comfortable, and charming The only thing we will bring if we are lucky enough to return is coffee pot. Our only 4 star -the location- is probably more pertinent to winter guests, when the early darkness and slippery patches made walking/running in the area a little treacherous.

We loved our stay - The cottage is wonderfull and charming, with a lot of attention to detail.
Some constructive feedback: We were suprised the cottage did not have any wine glasses and only 5 coffee mugs. Also, if you are a reader, the lighting in the living room is not adequate. Way too dim for evening reading.
There are a lot of free roaming dogs in the neigborhood, so a lot of dog-poop in the yard. Watch out if you bring kids who want to play outside.
