Fantastic location

Our family had a wonderful time over Thanksgiving. Location was was great and accommodations excellent. The only confusion was where to park overnight as all the public parking indicated that our car could be towed.

Manager Response:

We're happy to hear you enjoyed the Holliday House! We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Future guests should be advised that there are overnight parking options on the Beacon Lot (across the street). The proper spots to park in would be toward the end of the lot, closest to the snow plow train.

A Truckee Treasure

My husband & I stayed at Holliday House in October 2019 & would happily stay there again. This beautiful condo occupies the upper 2 levels of what I believe is a relatively new 3-story construction, & is well-located for exploring old town Truckee on foot & Lake Tahoe & surrounds by car. The condo is clean, bright, open, comfortable (I felt "at home" there) & fairly quiet at that time of year. The decor leans toward wood, metal, polished cement, textured fabrics, with original nature photography scattered about. It is well-equipped with linens & cooking utensils & more than spacious enough for 4 people. Lovely views of the railroad, the town & surrounding mountains from the 2 south-facing balconies. You will need to bring your own condiments & toiletries - salt, pepper, olive oil, shampoo & body wash are provided. The only potential drawback to a Holliday House stay is that there is no dedicated parkin. There is a public parking lot across the street, but current signage indicates one is not allowed to park in the lot overnight between November 1 & April 30.

Manager Response:

Pamela, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the home and all it had to offer. We definitely look forward to hosting you again. After further research (and for future guest reference), it does appear that the town has shifted the overnight parking further down the lot, closer to the snowplow train usually sits. It is still rather accessible.

Enjoyed our stay. Very nice, definitely would stay again. The one thing my wife and the other woman staying at the Holiday house with us, suggest that you/they ADD, lol a Full Dressing Rm Wall Mirror. Otherwise we had a great time once the front door lock was figured out. Cheers!

The location is perfect walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in downtown Truckee. After spending the day floating on the river or hiking the trails it was nice to just walk to a local restaurant and enjoy a glass of wine as the evening got started. The views from both decks were beautiful and another great place to sit and unwind after a fun day.

Both Truckee and the Holliday House were such a delightful surprise. I stayed five nights and would have happily stayed longer. I have high standards of cleanliness, and it has been so hard to find rental homes that both allow dogs and are clean enough for me to be comfortable. This place was impeccably clean and so tastefully decorated. It is seriously the cutest place you can imagine, and I love how it’s situated near the action but slightly removed so the dogs aren’t distracted by all of the activity outside. My two dogs and I were comfortable and happy to just hang out in the house and relax. The town is adorable, and there is so much to do. We LOVED the many walking trails, the river, the train, the proximity to all that Tahoe offers, and the cute shops and restaurants all around. I will definitely be coming back to Holliday House!

great home - we enjoyed it. thanks the main floor toilet was loose and the heating system blew only cold air and was very noisy, but we still loved the place. Tom

Thank you for your review! Future renters should know that we have resolved both of these issues, so they shouldn't be a problem moving forward!

This house is very nice but the following disclosures should have been made: 1.) the train noise. While the location is very charming near the train station the noise from it at all hours of the night and morning made sleeping a challenge. We turned the other cheek and rented My Cousin Vinny which if you haven’t seen has many scenes where “Vinny” is awakened by train sounds, whistle blowing and farm noises. Anyway, my entire family had its best night sleep at home upon our return. 2.) Parking. You should really survey the area regarding overnight parking. Technically you can’t park overnight based on the posted signs. I understand the signs that you have to pay for parking daily 9-6pm, but there are also no parking tow away signs that say you can’t park 2am - 5 am. I found the space directly across the street at the Beacon station without such signs, so we parked there. You need to make sorting this out a priority. Imagine how upset a future guest will be if his/her car is towed after not getting any sleep the night before. The last thing anyone wants on vacation is to stress out about parking. Finally, this is a 4-5 star property in the wrong location. Our 3 star review is based on these 2 major sticking points. RB

Manager Response:

Thank you for your review! Like all of us that live or stay in the Downtown Truckee neighborhood, guests of this home can be expected to hear the nearby train when it runs through the area. We do have a disclosure about the train as well as the parking for this home on all listings, as our goal is to be as transparent as possible. If guests have questions about where to park, please don't hesitate to reach out as we can point you in the right direction!

We had a warm and wonderful Christmas stay at the Holliday House. It couldn’t have been easier to roll in on a snowy afternoon with our two pups, park and easily access the house, and finally rest ourselves in front of the fire with spiked hot chocolates. The house has every convenience and a great living/dining area to cook and drink wine with friends. We slept soundly on soft beds with great down pillows and duvets, to awake to a white 2018 Christmas! The house is perfectly situated in old town Truckee for its access right outside the door to great restaurants like Truckee Tavern and Pianeta, as well as late night music and nightcaps at Moody’s. Another highlight is being just a few minutes walk across the river to the Legacy Trail, which is as historic as it is friendly, with pups, locals and other visitors to the area. We can’t wait to come back, summer or winter, and enjoy this special house again soon. Thanks for thinking of everything to provide us with such a great stay.

Holliday House is a beautifully designed loft-like home with high quality furnishings and the perfect location. The modern design is beautiful and welcoming, and the place is thoughtfully furnished. Being right in the heart of downtown Truckee means stores and restaurants are just a block or two away, and ski resorts (Nortstar, Alpine and Squaw Valley) are all within 15-20 minutes drive. I would definitely recommend this wonderful place!

This is a terrific location right downtown - the train going thru several times a day and at night was for us enjoyable and the noise (loud at times) did not pose a problem. The unit is beautifully decorated with lots of stunning photographs as wall art! The kitchen is particularly well equipped! The beds were comfy! The only drawback was the broken door to second floor deck - we had been informed about it but it was disappointing to not be able to utilize it and it would have been nice if there had been some adjustment for it's loss! The staff at Getaways was courteous and some minor problems were promptly addressed. We were happy and certainly would highly recommend!

Beautiful place on the main street of Truckee. Very clean, spacious and well decorated. Beds were comfortable. Spent the weekend exploring all of Tahoe and would return at night to walk to dinner in Truckee. Would love to stay here again!

Holliday House is a very nice and somewhat unique property with an in-town location at the end of the main drag in Truckee. Its new, in good condition, and nicely appointed with a cozy industrial feel. What you see in the pictures on line is basically what you get. A major added plus is that it's dog-friendly and, even better, the rental proceeds go to the humane society. All that said, the fact is that this property will not be suitable for everyone. We were there mid-week at the very end of the ski season, so the late night street noise (which you can more or less hear) was minimal, but that's not likely to be the case in season. Also, there's no dedicated parking and parking can be a problem, unless you're lucky or care to pay for the lot across the street (assuming there's an open spot in the busy season). The major concern, however, will be for those who may be relatively light sleepers, or have trouble falling back to sleep. The rail line is only a few hundred feet away in front of the unit, and our experience was that each evening trains roared through at about 12:30 a.m., 3:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m., and later, blaring their horns on an extended basis through town. Be forewarned - not surprised. We left early which accounts for some negative scores - others might not find any of those items to be a problem.
