Between major heat waves, seasonal humidity, and a long break from school leading to whines of "I'm bored", it really can start to feel like the dog days of summer. But fear not! We're here with four perfect ways to cool off this summer.
Take a Dip in Big Blue

The simple things really are the best. With no entrance fee, no lines, and splashing encouraged, let the family loose on the shore of one of Lake Tahoe's gorgeous public beaches. If you're looking for a large park with all the amenities and watercraft rental nearby, try Commons Beach in downtown Tahoe City. Prefer somewhere quiet, where you'll see more locals than tourists? Venture down to Moon Dunes beach with a beach blanket and cooler packed with all the beach day essentials. For more options, check out all of our Lake Tahoe Beaches, or take a look at the pet-friendly spots if you are traveling with your dog.
Float the Truckee River

One of North Lake Tahoe's "must-dos," conditions are perfect for floating the Truckee this summer. Spend a morning or afternoon on a leisurely float from Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows. All ages welcome (even furry family members!) and sizable rafts allow room for lunch and refreshments. Local rafting outfits make the process a breeze with free parking and a shuttle to the entrance point, and the float ends at the River Ranch - a perfect spot to stop for a bite.
Explore the lake by Boat

What better way to see what Tahoe has to offer than by boat. Spend your day exploring the best swimming holes, tubing, and wake surfing on Big Blue. The best part is you can jump in to cool off whenever you want! So pack a lunch, grab the sunscreen and head out for a day of adventure!
Enjoy a Cone with your Feet in Donner Lake

Is there anything more quintessentially summer than enjoying a cone on a dock, toes dangling into the refreshing waters of an Alpine Lake? Visit Little Truckee Creamery, and you can do just that! Located away from the crowds of downtown, this locally owned shop across the street from Donner Lake makes all their ice cream in the house. Non-dairy ice cream and sorbet available as well! Open 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily.

Now we're off to enjoy this summer day ourselves. Just have to decide which flavor of ice cream to pick...
