Spring has sprung in Lake Tahoe, and one of our favorite things about this time of year are all the activities available. As the Spring skiing capital, North Lake Tahoe offers the opportunity to ski until Easter weekend at most resorts, and through July 7, 2019 at Squaw Valley! At the same time, golf courses will begin opening, and sunny days are a sign it might be time to get out the kayaks and paddleboards. Looking for something a little more low key? Spring is the perfect time to tour local shops and eateries, book a massage at one of our world class spas, or check out a local festival.
Need some inspiration? Check out a few of our staff's favorite Tahoe Dual Days:
1. Action Packed: Downhill Skiing at Squaw Valley + Kayaking on Lake Tahoe
Record breaking winter storms mean great snow that will last all spring, and sunny days mean skiing and riding in your favorite tank top. After taking some turns, enjoy lunch at Auld Dubliner before heading just 15 minutes south to Tahoe City.
There, stop by Tahoe City Kayak and Paddleboard and take advantage of an exclusive discount available only to Tahoe Getaways guests. Watch the sun grow lower in the sky and bask in the pride of being one of the few who stood at the top of a mountain and sat on top of the lake, all in one day. And trust us, you'll enjoy a superb night's rest after this dual day.
2. Perfect Balance: Cross Country Skiing at Tahoe Donner + Shopping in Historic Downtown Truckee
Voted Top 3 XC Ski Centers in North America by USA Today for 3 years straight, Tahoe Donner's Cross Country Ski Center is projected to operate through Easter Sunday this year. Get out early to enjoy the sunrise, freshly groomed trails, and the serenity of the mountains.
With a variety of terrain, and several dog friendly trails, this is a great spot for advanced skate skiers and those new to the sport alike. After working up an appetite, head to Historic Downtown Truckee for a pick me up at Coffeebar, serving espresso drinks, beer, wine, pasteries and a variety of fresh lunch items, including gluten-free, paleo, and vegan options.
Make your way down to Donner Pass road and walk the corridor east until you reach Bridge Street. Along the way, you'll find clothing boutiques, an old fashioned ice cream parlor, bookstore, wine bar, and several art and jewelry shops. Once you've shopped til you've dropped, pop in to Moody's to rest your feet and enjoy a craft cocktail to cap off your day.
3. Relax and Rejuvenate: Cruise the Truckee River Bike Trail + Massage at Lighthouse Spa
Running from Squaw Valley through Tahoe City, you can hop on the bike path at a variety of points, but we recommend renting crusiers near the entrance to Squaw. Enjoy views of the Truckee River as you head south on the paved trail, accessible for all age riders. Enjoy lunch in the sun at Bridgetender, before heading back to return your bikes.
After getting your blood flowing and soaking up some Vitamin D, it is time to head to the spa for some serious relaxation. Whether you are looking for a healing aromatherapy wrap, clarifying facial, or deep tissue massage, the talented therapists at Lioghthouse Spa will leave you feeling refreshed and renewed, just like spring intended.
