Tahoe Getaways Announcements

As our business continues to grow and thrive, one of the things most important to Tahoe Getaways is that we give back to the community where we are lucky enough to live, work, and play. As a company, we are involved with many local organizations, but one of the most significant ways we are able to contribute is by supporting our team members in their own volunteer work.

Today, we highlight our Sales Manager, Beth Taylor, and her work with SOS Outreach. I sat down with Beth and asked her to tell us a bit about this program and her involvement.

“SOS Outreach is a youth development nonprofit that fosters self-confidence, leadership skills, and positive decision making in underserved and at risk youth. SOS programs are unique in their use of adventure sports to engage participants for future success.”

Beth is one of North Lake Tahoe’s adult mentors, called Sherpas, who donate their time to mentor local youth.

“There are 50 Sherpas who work with the youth from October through March on and off the hill, completing service days, life skills workshops, and of course skiing and snowboarding. We have 180 youth enrolled in our long-term mentorship program here in Tahoe, called University, 72 in the North lake program. Youth learn a snow sport through our Learn To Ride program and then are invited back to participate in our 4 year University program, each year receiving a Seasons Pass as part of the Vail Resorts Epic Promise Program.”

When asked what drew her to SOS Outreach, Beth responded, “We are so privileged to have access to these amazing opportunities for outdoor recreation. This program provides a way for us to share these experiences with kids who might never have gotten on the mountain otherwise. It’s such an incredible thing to watch them develop new skills, and really come out of their shell during the course of the season.”
