Description

If convenience and affordability is what you seek from your next Tahoe Vacation Rental, Bunker is a great choice for your next visit to the Lake Tahoe area. Walking distance to Tahoe City and Commons Beach (a locals favorite for summer concerts and the farmers market), and just 10 minutes to Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley, this Tahoe cabin is hard to beat.

While, just a short walk into Tahoe City, this affordable cabin rental has a very private back yard backing to National Forest. Bunker also has a very functional floor plan with open kitchen, dining and living area centered around a cozy wood burning fireplace. The great room also opens up to the sunny front deck with charcoal grill and small patio set. There are also two simple bedrooms on this level with queen beds and they share one full bath.

Upstairs, guests will find two modest bedrooms, each furnished with two twin beds. Adjacent to these bedrooms, is a full bath and a small loft area with sitting area and desk. Downstairs, below the main living area, you'll find the den with a television and DVD player. This is a great place for keeping the kids entertained or can be used as an extra sleeping space, with a double futon.

ABOUT THE AREA

Tahoe City is perched on the shore of Lake Tahoe at the headwaters of the Truckee River (Lake Tahoe’s only outlet). Enjoy four-star dining, homegrown coffee shops, shopping, galleries, and a leisurely stroll through town on the lake view boardwalk any time of year.

Commons Beach is Tahoe City’s four acre public park on the lake, popular for sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking. Group picnic sites and children’s playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area. Bike and watercraft rentals are available within walking distance of the beach.

During the ski season, you are just 15 minutes from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, two of the premier Tahoe ski areas. A single lift ticket provides access to both resorts, and the Squaw/Alpine Express offers between mountain transportation every 20-30 minutes.

Noticing some changes over the years

We rented this property for the 3rd time in the 5 years. The location is great and convenient to many activities and businesses in Tahoe City. The overall structure is in good condition. The design allows people to spread out and have their space.

However, the property and it's amenities are starting to show their age and need a tune up. The mattresses are becoming worn as 3 out of a family of 4 had new stiffness and soreness upon awakening each morning. The material on some of the couches was cracked open exposing the filling. The screen door at the top of the outside stairs had holes covered by tape. There was a burned section on the deck that appeared related to use of the grill that is now on a concrete pad. The main entrance at the lower level needs a little adjustment of the door lock. Depending upon the pressure applied to the door when opening, the lock mechanism may or may not clear the door jam making it difficult to open the door.

In addition, the preparation of the property was slightly lacking. The cleaners had overlooked a used bar of soap in the main level bathroom as well as 1-2 T-shirts that were drapped over the common wall of the upstairs bedrooms. The T-shirts are on top of a wall that is 10 ft high. We could not reach them, so I understand that the cleaners may have had a similar problem. However, I think that they could have asked someone with the Property Management Company to assist them.

If the property receives some routine maintenance and updating, we would be more than happy to return to this property as we love the location and overall design of the property structure.

P.S. do heed the warning about use of the bear box for trash. We believe that we saw the backside of a bear disappearing into the woods as our car's headlights shined on the bear box when we first arrived at the property late in the evening.

It was very convenient for us; we did have three different people fall on the stairs which was a liability for us and for people visiting.

We had a nice stay over the 4th of July weekend with 7 adults and 3 kids. The house needs to be updated a bit but is comfortable and the location is nice as it is in the trees and walking distance from Tahoe City. The house is missing a number of kitchen items that were advertised such as a blender, spatulas, and BBQ tongs and the power outlet in the kitchen had to be reset a couple of times. The downstairs beds were fairly comfortable, but the upstairs beds are better for kids than adults and were not comfortable. I would think they would make better use of the downstairs area for a bedroom especially during the summer as it was the coolest part of the house. I don't know if I would stay there again, but we had a nice time.

We enjoyed our stay and would rent it again.

Property is walking distance from town and Commons Beach which was perfect for us. We had enough room for 5 teenagers and 5 adults. I like the rule "no shoes upstairs". Keeps it cleaner.

Great location, wish it was furnished better!

The owners have furnished this cabin with very low quality furniture, sheets, curtains, utensils, etc. The curtain bar came off trying to open it, the 4 drawer chest in the upper bedroom was so unstable, it fell forward opening only one of the drawer, green plastic spoon and fork for serving food, very cheap utensils......
This cabin should be offered to students, and not working professionals..
